Once upon a time, in a cozy little farm, there lived a hardworking hen named Ruby. Ruby was a little red hen with bright feathers and a cheerful spirit. She took pride in her work and loved to keep her home tidy and productive.

One day, while scratching the ground for food, Ruby found some grains of wheat. Excited about her discovery, she thought, “I will plant these grains and make some delicious bread!” But before she could start, she decided to ask for help from her friends: the lazy dog, the sleepy cat, and the noisy duck.

“Who will help me plant the wheat?” Ruby asked.

“Not I,” said the dog, lying in the sun.

“Not I,” said the cat, yawning lazily.

“Not I,” quacked the duck, flapping her wings.

Ruby sighed but didn’t let their lack of enthusiasm discourage her. “Very well, I will plant the wheat myself,” she declared. And so she did.

Weeks passed, and the wheat grew tall and golden. When it was time to harvest, Ruby called her friends again. “Who will help me harvest the wheat?” she asked.

“Not I,” said the dog, still lounging.

“Not I,” said the cat, still napping.

“Not I,” quacked the duck, splashing in the pond.

Ruby shook her head and replied, “I will harvest it myself.” And she did.

After harvesting, Ruby took the wheat to the mill to grind it into flour. When she returned, she announced, “Who will help me bake the bread?”

“Not I,” said the dog, rolling over.

“Not I,” said the cat, stretching.

“Not I,” quacked the duck, chasing after a butterfly.

“I will bake the bread myself,” Ruby said firmly. And she did.

Finally, the bread was ready, warm and golden brown. The aroma filled the farm, making Ruby’s friends’ mouths water. “Who will help me eat the bread?” Ruby asked, a smile on her face.

“I will!” exclaimed the dog, sitting up.

“I will!” said the cat, licking her lips.

“I will!” quacked the duck, eager to join in.

But Ruby shook her head and replied, “No, you didn’t help me plant, harvest, or bake the bread. I will eat it all by myself.”

And with that, Ruby enjoyed the delicious bread, savoring every bite while her friends watched hungrily.

### Moral and Life Lesson

The story of the little red hen teaches us the importance of hard work and responsibility. It shows that those who do not contribute should not expect to benefit from the efforts of others. By working together and supporting one another, we can achieve greater things, but it is equally important to recognize the value of our contributions and the effort required to achieve our goals.
